The Chemistry Olympiad is a multi-tiered competition designed to stimulate and promote achievement in high school chemistry. Each year, four students are chosen to represent the United States team at the International Chemistry Olympiad competition. The Chemistry Olympiad consists of the following four stages:
- Local Chemistry Olympiad Competition
- U.S. National Chemistry Olympiad Competition
- Study Camp
- International Chemistry Olympiad
The Midland Section organizes and coordinates the Local and U.S. National Chemistry Olympiad competitions under the auspices of the American Chemical Society.
Eight high schools involving 181 students from the Midland Section area participated this year. Nine Local competition individual winners representing Bay, Isabella, Midland, and Saginaw counties took part in the 2018 National competition on April 21st at Saginaw Valley State University. All the students who took part in the Chemistry Olympiad were recognized and the nine National exam participants received awards at the Recognition banquet in Midland on May 2rd.
