Chemistry Olympiad

The Chemistry Olympiad is a multi-tiered competition designed to stimulate and promote achievement in high school chemistry. Each year, four students are chosen to represent the United States team at the International Chemistry Olympiad competition. The Chemistry Olympiad consists of the following four stages:

  • Local Chemistry Olympiad Exam
  • U.S. National Chemistry Olympiad Competition
  • Study Camp
  • International Chemistry Olympiad
  • The Midland Section coordinates every year Local and U.S. National Chemistry Olympiad competitions under the auspices of the American Chemical Society.

In 2020, 184 students representing nine high schools located in four counties within the Midland Section geographic area participated in the Local Exam.  Nine Local competition winners from Bay, Midland, and Saginaw counties took part in the 2020 National Exam on April 26th which this year was virtual due to COVID.  All the students who took part in the Chemistry Olympiad were recognized.  For additional information about the Olympiad Program in the Midland Section and to get your school involved, please contact Michael Tulchinsky at tulchiml@dow.com.
